One Month Doctor Visit

Noah's one-month doctor visit was another success. He is growing a lot - our pediatrician continues to be happy with his weight gain. Noah wasn't so happy about the visit - he got a vaccination which was followed by some powerful screaming. But he is in a deep sleep now, so it must not have been that bad.

The nice thing about living so close to the doctor's office is that we were able to walk to and from our appointment on this very nice day.

Here are Noah's stats:

Weight: 10 lbs, 9 oz (50 to 75th percentile)
Height: 23 inches (90 to 95th percentile)
Head circumference: 38 cm ( 25 to 50th percentile)

Swing Time

Here's Noah in his swing - he was asleep before I bumped the metal trashcan getting the video camera ready. Note the white noise in the background - this is music to his ears and puts him to sleep instantly!

First Ride in the Stroller

Noah, Mommy and Grandma took our first walk around the neighborhood today. Noah was bundled up sufficiently for a stroll through Alaska.

Noah's first week of life was quite a roller coaster. After arriving home on Friday the 29th, we had a nice day and first night at home. But, at our 48 hour check up on Saturday morning, the doctor decided to send us back to the hospital for phototherapy treatment for jaundice. While in the hospital, Noah's urine tested positive for bacteria and high levels of reducing substances, leading to a number of tests all day Sunday and a variety of different potential diagnoses. He had to go through numerous blood tests and a spinal tap, then be hooked up to an IV for fluids and an antibiotic. Needless to say, Sunday was one of the most difficult days of our lives for Daniel and myself.

Fortunately, the jaundice cleared up after one day of treatment under the lights (shown in the picture). Then we received good news Monday morning that the urine culture and the spinal culture had failed to grow bacteria. God continued to show us grace, and the culture had still failed to grow bacteria by Tuesday, so the doctor sent us home!!!

We were back at the doctor's on Wednesday to make sure everything continued to be fine and Noah was given a clean bill of health! He was even 2 ounces above his birth weight - quite an accomplishment.

Thanks to all of our friends and family that have prayed and given such wonderful support. We never could have gotten through that without you! God is merciful and powerful to answer prayer!
